Catholic in Recovery Sharing Faith
Updated: Aug 27
I discovered Catholic in Recovery when I was searching for Catholic healing programs. CoDA (Codependents Anonymous) had helped me so much, but my heart was ready to bring my Catholic Faith into my recovery.
Catholic in Recovery has many online meetings that connected me with Catholics across the country and beyond! I tried out the ones that fit my schedule. In the General Recovery groups, I was with men and women who were working to overcome all types of addictions. As in my CoDA meetings, I felt safe to share. I was inspired by the courage of others facing their difficulties, and it was so good to be able to talk about my faith and pray together!
The complete list of online Catholic in Recovery meetings can be found here: https://catholicinrecovery.com/find-a-meeting/.
I got a membership subscription to CIR+ to gain access to Catholic in Recovery's webinars. They addressed a wide variety of topics concerning addiction and the gifts of our Catholic Faith. Many other recovery resources are included with the subscription. Visit https://catholicinrecovery.com/cirplus/ for more information.
One day, I noticed in the Catholic in Recovery newsletter that an in-person meeting was starting at my parish! I volunteered to help and was blessed to be a part of the group as it blossomed and grew. The meetings were even more powerful in person. We read the upcoming Sunday's gospel together and then broke into men's and women's groups for sharing. Now they have added a group for friends and family members of those with addictions.
After the regular meeting, I met with a small group to go through "The 12 Steps and the Sacraments". We would prepare in advance using the "Catholic in Recovery Workbook: A Guide to the Twelve Steps". I had been through the 12 steps of recovery a couple times with some members of my CoDA group, and each experience took me deeper. We used some AA resources to supplement, and I learned so much from the other members. I felt blessed to encourage, pray, and share with my group, as we helped one another to persevere.
The Catholic in Recovery group at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church meets at 7:00pm every Wednesday in Cary, NC. Contact CIR@stmcary.org to find out more.
